Joe Strummer, cuyo nombre real era John Graham Mellor (1952-2002), fue un cantautor, guitarrista y activista británico. Conocido por ser el líder de The Clash, una de las bandas punk más influyentes de la historia musical. Nacido en Ankara, Turquía, de padres ingleses, Strummer pasó su infancia entre Londres y Europa continental. Influenciado por el rock 'n' roll estadounidense y la música folk británica, comenzó a tocar la guitarra a los 15 años. En 1976, fundó The Clash con Mick Jones, Paul Simonon y Topper Headon. La banda se convirtió rápidamente en un símbolo del movimiento punk, mezclando energía punk, reggae, ska y rockabilly en un sonido único y revolucionario. Sus álbumes, como *London Calling* (1979) y *Sandinista!* (1980), son considerados hitos de la música punk e influenciaron a generaciones de músicos.
