Ayreon è un progetto musicale progressive rock fondato nel 1995 dall'olandese Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Lucassen, compositore e polistrumentista di talento, ha concepito Ayreon come un concept album narrativo in cui diverse voci cantano i ruoli di personaggi immaginari all'interno di una storia fantascientifica complessa. Il primo album, "The Final Experiment", uscì nel 1998 e segnò l'inizio di un percorso musicale unico che ha visto la partecipazione di numerosi artisti ospiti provenienti da tutto il mondo.
