Letra The way back John Butler Trio

The way back

We are looking for salvation, some of us don't even know
We are swimming in an ocean, all just looking for the shore
If you slave away for dollars and your dollars. They don't grow
Maybe you're the wrong equation or the algorithm broke

And the screens yelling out with the great big roar
You should try a little harder, you could do a little more
You could have a piece of the pie get what you are destined for
You can be that 1 percentile with that 99 below

Whoa, hard times if it's truth that you seek
Whoa "9-to-5", you'd be lucky you can keep
Whoa, feel the vibe, you can smell it on the street
Oh, I would say it's just a shame, but I thought you'd agree

I can scroll away for hours, I can rot up all my brain
I can drown in all the data and desensitize my pain
I tried to make some dollars, found out it was just a game
And that game is fucking rigged by that rich fat man again

They say, "Steal away from Peter just to give it to Paul."
Compartmentalize my reason and justify it all
Fighting one another but we don't know why
How can you not laugh? How can you not cry?

And, so, I'm making a decision not to close my eyes
Get over my privilege, get over my pride
And one more thing, man. Fucking get over yourself
This is not about you, it's 'bout everyone else

And the way
Back sometimes can be a rough one
Baby, OK
I don't wanna go back to the way it was
Hey. Sometimes I cry. Damn! That shit was fucking broke
But the way back eludes my eyes, my eyes, eyes

We are looking for salvation some of us don't even know
We are swimming in an ocean, all just looking for the shore
If you slave away for dollars and your dollars. They don't grow
Maybe you're the wrong equation or the systems fucking broke

And the screens yelling out with the great big roar
You should try a little harder, you could do a little more
You could have a piece of the pie get what you are destined for
You can be that 1 percentile with that 99 below

Whoa, hard times if it's truth that you seek
Whoa "9-to-5", you'd be lucky you can keep
Whoa, feel the vibe, you can smell it on the street
Oh, I would say it's just a shame, but I thought you'd agree

That the way
Back sometimes can be a rough one
Baby, OK
I don't wanna go back to the way it was
Hey
