Sea Wolf è il progetto musicale di Alex Brown Church, un cantautore indie rock originario di Los Angeles, California. Dopo aver frequentato la scuola di cinema alla NYU, Church ha fondato nel 1998 il gruppo Irving. Molte delle canzoni che scrisse durante questo periodo non si adattavano allo stile del gruppo, così iniziò a esibirsi come Sea Wolf con un ensemble di musicisti di supporto in rotazione, suonando localmente a Los Angeles e registrando demo a Seattle con il produttore Phil Ek (Band of Horses, The Shins, Fleet Foxes). Nel 2007 ha firmato per Dangerbird Records, pubblicando l'EP *Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low* e l'album completo *Leaves In The River*, che ha raggiunto la posizione numero 24 nella classifica Billboard Heatseekers. Tra i brani più rappresentativi di Sea Wolf si ricordano *You're a Wolf*, *The Violet Hour* e *Broken City*.
