Otis Ray Redding Jr. (1941-1967) è stato un cantante statunitense di soul, considerato uno dei più influenti artisti del genere. Nato a Dawson, Georgia, Redding iniziò la sua carriera musicale suonando in chiese e locali notturni del sud degli Stati Uniti. Nel 1962 firmò con la Stax Records, dove ottenne il successo con brani come "Respect" (cover di Aretha Franklin) e "Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fine". Il suo stile vocale potente e emotivo, caratterizzato da un'ampia gamma e una straordinaria capacità di interpretazione, lo rese uno dei cantanti soul più amati. Tra i suoi brani più celebri figurano "I've Been Loving You Too Long", "Try a Little Tenderness" e il postumo successo mondiale "(Sittin' on) the Dock of the Bay". La sua tragica morte in un incidente aereo nel 1967, all'età di soli 26 anni, segnò la fine di una carriera promettente e lasciò un vuoto nel panorama musicale.
