Katatonia è una band svedese di metal formatasi a Stoccolma nel 1991 da Jonas Renkse (in precedenza noto come Lord Seth) e Anders Nyström (in precedenza noto come Blakkheim). I primi album dei Katatonia sono caratterizzati da un'atmosfera cupa, malinconica e disperata, che spesso li ha classificati come doom metal o death/doom metal. Negli ultimi anni la band ha ampliato il suo sound, incorporando elementi moderni, synth sinfonici, arrangiamenti alternativi e riff pesanti.
