Bathory fue una histórica banda de heavy metal sueca formada en 1983 por Quorthon (seudónimo de Lars-Göran Petrov). Considerados pioneros tanto del black metal como del Viking metal, han influenciado profundamente el panorama musical underground. El nombre de la banda deriva de la famosa condesa húngara Elizabeth Bathory, conocida por sus prácticas sangrientas y la leyenda que la rodea. Bathory publicó una serie de álbumes fundamentales, entre ellos "Blood Fire Death" (1987), considerado un punto de referencia del black metal, y "Hammerheart" (1990), que introduce elementos folk y viking. Otros álbumes importantes son "Twilight of the Gods" (1996) y "Requiem" (2001). Entre sus canciones más representativas se encuentran "Total Destruction", "In League with Satan", "The Lake", "Equimanthorn" y "Outro Aeternum". Quorthon, único miembro estable de la banda, manejó todos los aspectos musicales y de producción hasta su muerte en 2004.
