The Dear Hunter es un proyecto musical a tiempo completo de Casey Crescenzo, ex miembro de la banda de post-hardcore The Receiving End of Sirens. El sonido del grupo no es muy diferente al de la anterior banda de Crescenzo, pero con tendencias más alternativas y progresivas de rock, además de una variedad más amplia de instrumentos musicales. Crescenzo ha definido el proyecto como un "álbum conceptual en constante evolución", con cada álbum que representa un capítulo en una historia narrativa global.
