Avantasia es un proyecto musical de power metal y symphonic metal creado por Tobias Sammet, vocalista y líder del grupo de power metal Edguy. El nombre del proyecto, una combinación de las palabras 'avalon' y 'fantasia', describe 'un mundo más allá de la imaginación humana' (una cita del folleto). Avantasia se compone de un sencillo homónimo, dos álbumes de estudio con el subtítulo *The Metal Opera*, dos EP llamados *Lost in Space* y la reciente trilogía *Scarecrow*. Sammet ha involucrado a numerosos invitados en el proyecto, incluyendo Oliver Hartmann, Michael Kiske, Kai Hansen y Jorn Lande.
