Witchfinder General è una band heavy metal britannica formatasi a Stourbridge nel 1979. Prendono il nome dal film horror del 1968 *Il Grande Inquisitore*. Considerati uno dei pionieri del doom metal, hanno influenzato generazioni di musicisti con la loro musica cupa e pesante. Il sound della band è caratterizzato da riff pesanti, batteria potente e voce roca. Tra i brani più rappresentativi si ricordano "Death Penalty", "The Witchfinder General" e "Angel of Death". Witchfinder General ha pubblicato diversi album tra cui *Witchfinder General* (1980), *Hell's Hammer* (1982) e *Serpent's Kiss* (1984). La band si è sciolta nel 1985 ma ha avuto un revival negli anni '90, continuando a registrare e esibirsi fino ad oggi.
