Soft Cell è un duo britannico di synthpop noto per essere salito alla ribalta nei primi anni '80. Il gruppo è composto dal vocalist Marc Almond e da David Ball, responsabile dei sintetizzatori. La loro fama internazionale è dovuta al successo planetario del 1981 con una versione rielaborata della canzone "Tainted Love" di Gloria Jones. Seppur questo brano sia stato l'unico successo di Soft Cell nella classifica americana, il duo ha ottenuto dieci successi nei primi quaranta posti delle classifiche britanniche, tra cui "Bedsitter", "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye", "Torch" e "What!". Inoltre, hanno pubblicato quattro album che si sono piazzati tra i primi venti in UK tra il 1981 e il 1984. Tra gli altri successi del duo ricordiamo anche "Where The Heart Is", "Numbers", "Down In The Subway", "Soul Inside" e "The Night". Soft Cell si è sciolto nel 1984, ma si è riunito all'inizio degli anni 2000 per tour e ha pubblicato un nuovo album nel 2002.
