Art Blakey (Arthur Blakey, 1919-1990) è stato un leggendario batterista jazz statunitense, considerato uno dei pilastri del bebop. Nato a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Blakey iniziò la sua carriera negli anni '40, collaborando con artisti come Dizzy Gillespie e Thelonious Monk. Nel 1954 fondò il suo gruppo più famoso, The Jazz Messengers, che divenne un trampolino di lancio per molti musicisti jazz di spicco, tra cui Wayne Shorter, Lee Morgan e Freddie Hubbard. Blakey era noto per la sua energia contagiosa sul palco, la sua tecnica batteristica potente e precisa e la sua leadership carismatica.
