Dave Wakeling (nato David Wakeling il 19 febbraio 1956 a Birmingham, Inghilterra) è un cantautore e chitarrista inglese noto per essere stato il cantante e principale compositore della band ska degli anni '80 The Beat (conosciuta negli Stati Uniti come The English Beat) e successivamente di General Public. Wakeling ha iniziato la sua carriera musicale nei primi anni '70 con gruppi locali a Birmingham, influenzato dal reggae e dalla musica ska. Nel 1978 ha fondato The Beat insieme a Ranking Roger, Andy Cox e altri musicisti. La band ha rapidamente raggiunto il successo internazionale con brani come "Mirror in the Bathroom", "Save It for Later" e "Can't Get Used to Losing You". Dopo lo scioglimento di The Beat nel 1983, Wakeling ha formato General Public, un gruppo che ha continuato a esplorare sonorità ska e reggae con influenze pop. Tra i successi di General Public si annoverano "Tenderness" e "Never Let Go". Wakeling è noto per il suo stile vocale distintivo e le sue canzoni spesso impegnate socialmente.
